Crave – Day #1

Posted By on Mar 29, 2014 | 1 comment

Today, we officially start our 21-days of Crave! Woohoo!!

It’s a time of prayer, fasting, and study; and as we journey through this process together, you can find helpful information here [liveSENT.today] and on the Heritage website [heritageqc.com]. As we read through the Gospel of John, I will also post reflections, thoughts, and questions to supplement our times of reading.

It’s been cool to see the Heritage Family passionately responding to the call to hunger after God!  Thanks, Heritage Church! Thanks for being a people with a passion for more people to know Jesus.

Believing in you.

Day 1 [March 29]

John 1

The Gospel of John was written by the disciple John. He is known as the disciple whom Jesus loved, and he wrote this book to the Greeks so that “you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” [John 20:31]

John starts by providing a synopsis of who Jesus was, is, and will be. It is clear that Jesus surpasses us because He was before us. [ref. John 1:30] We are not worthy to untie His sandals. Yet, he says, “Come and see.” He is the one who connects us to God and to each other, and all who follow him are given a new life and the ability to see even greater things.

Jesus told Nathaniel that he would “see even greater things than that.”  [John 1:50]. I want us to see even greater things in our church. Do you? Do you want to see God do greater things in your family? In your marriage? In your workplace? In your life? I do! But that only happens when we believe and follow Him. It does not happen with a half-hearted commitment, a passing agreement or remaining under the “fig tree.” It happens when we put aside the things of this world, and we say, “I’m in. I’m all in.”

John Wesley once said, “If your heart is as my heart, then put your hand in mine.”  Let’s do that. Let’s hold onto Him and each other, and let’s go and see even greater things. Jesus says, “Come and see.” He invites us to follow Him; and if we do, we…as a church…will see even greater things.

Lord Jesus – Everything that has been made was made through You. You call to us, who are not even worthy to untie your sandals, to come and see…to follow You. You existed before all things. You have dwelled among us, you have given us the right to become children of God and invited us to be part of what You are doing. We want to see greater things. We want to see You work in the lives of our loved ones, in our own lives, and in the Church. We want to see a greater moving of Your power, a greater outpouring of Your Holy Spirit, and a greater harvest for Your Kingdom. Let Your Holy Spirit settle on Heritage Church as it settled on You so that more and more people will come to know as Nathaniel did that You, Jesus, are the Son of God. Amen.
