“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will
make your paths straight.” [Proverbs 3:5-6]
Proverbs 3:5-6 has been a favorite passage of mine for more than 25 years. I like it for how it helps me navigate life. I also like it for what it implies about me…and God.
I find comfort in the simple truth of my need and the incredible power of HIS promise. I need Him, and I know that. But I can get distracted. I can forget my need…especially in times of success or blessing. [Check out 1 Corinthians 10:12]
I need God, and He provides what I need…as long as I remain dependent upon HIM. That’s a foundational reality of spiritual maturity…complete dependence on HIM.
When we remain fully dependent upon God, He refines us. In that posture, He addresses issues of heart, character, priority, love and so much more.
When we successfully journey through those refining moments, He then uses us to make a difference in this world and the lives of others for His glory. But not until He does work inside us, and He can’t refine us until we place our dependence on Him.
This is true for everyone. It is a simple yet deeply significant process He seeks to move every person through, and its a beautiful thing!
So where are you in the process?
Are you depending on Him? Trusting Him with all your heart? Are you setting aside your own understanding for HIS? Are you allowing him to refine you…to straighten your paths?
Until we let go of our own agenda…
Until we position our understanding second to His…
Until we know Him fully through His refining process…
…our paths will be crooked at best.
Take a few moments right now to talk with the Lord about where you are in His process of refining and equipping. Ask Him to show you what areas of heart, mind, soul & strength need his refining touch. Then…in complete dependence, ask Him to do it.
After that, join us this weekend as we explore God’s game plan for life in our Home Run Life series.
