Whooshing by…

road1“Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10a

By the end of this week, Beth & I will have spent almost 24 hours traveling. We are going from the Quad Cities to Tel Aviv as we co-lead a group of nearly 50 people to Israel with John & Patty.  To say I’m excited would be an understatement.

I bring this up because I will have spent nearly a full day looking out the windows of cars, buses and planes. [Sorry no trains. ;-)].  That’s 24 hours watching miles pass by.

I don’t mind travel. I actually like it, but miles can feel longer on some trips. Have you ever noticed how slow the miles can pass by on a long trip? They just don’t seem to come fast enough. Some things in life can feel really slow, but all too often in our high-paced society time flies by and it can seem like we don’t have enough time in the day to get things done…let alone spend time with God.

I read this quote a while back: “I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by.” [Douglas Adams] I don’t know Doug Adams, but I can’t agree more with his statement. Our busy lives can leave our heads spinning as moments, deadlines and even our scheduled moments with God pass by at almost supersonic speed.

That is one reason I am excited about our upcoming time of corporate prayer, fasting and study at Heritage Church. Not only will it give us a chance to refocus our attention and reliance upon God, but it will allow us to give more specific time to talk with Him and just be with Him.

As we approach our 21-day Crave journey, we’ll have an opportunity to slow down at least a portion of our lives and focus on Him…and as a few more deadlines go “whooshing” by, maybe we will all be able to feel a little less stressed about our seemingly endless “To Do” lists.

I know I will.

Believing in you.
