Today’s reading takes us back into the Scripture we unpacked yesterday.  It’s a walking conversation where Jesus imparts some further final instructions to his faithful disciples.

I pray that He speaks to you as you “walk” through those words with Him today.

John 15

John 15 takes place on the walk from the Passover meal to the Garden of Gethsemane, and it is chock-full of good stuff! The over arching theme is what happens when we remain…or abide in Him, which we began to unpack yesterday. Here are just a few more important truths about remaining in Him:

v.4 – He remains in us.

v.5 – We bear fruit.

v.7 – We can ask whatever we want and it will be given.

v.10 – We remain in His love.

v.11 – We have joy.

Beyond those things, we need to remain in Him simply because we can do nothing apart from Him! So…what areas of your life are you achieving “nothing” right now? That is…what are you trying to do on your own? Whatever it is, stop!

Too often we labor, strive, and work in vain because we are trying to do it on our own. Nothing is impossible with God. [Luke 1:37] However, we can’t do anything without Him. Psalm 127 tells us:

“Unless the LORD builds the house,

its builders labor in vain.

Unless the LORD watches over the city,

the watchmen stand guard in vain.”

This time of fasting is one way to reaffirm our dependence and reliance upon God, and let Him “build” and “stand guard” over our lives. This life can be very difficult. The world can bring us a whole lot of nothing, but life with Jesus brings fruit that lasts.

What areas of your life will yield lasting fruit because you have remained in Him? If the answer is none, talk to God right now and ask Him how you can change that.
